One of the main reasons the Bruins prevailed was the goaltending of Tim Thomas. Thomas also was recognized as the most valuable player of the playoffs, given the Conn Smythe trophy. Thomas was able to prevail every time that the Canucks challenged him. Opposite of Thomas was goaltending that was another reason Boston won. Roberto Luongo was absolutely dreadful, as he has been throughout his playoff career. Vancouver made one of its worst moves ever by handing him a ten year monster contract.

Zdeno Chara was another very important player for the Bruins. He is the captain of the team and his presence on defense is immense. His size is amazing as he is one of the tallest players ever and he has a shot to match. The Sedin twins of Vancouver were constantly matched up against Chara and they could not produce any offense. The leadership of Chara who was simply the better player was one of the most important pieces of the cup puzzle for Boston.
